I think this is a great outline and you should be able to find a lot of information. To make your arguement more valid and stand out more, i would suggest using some positive ads and how they influence the viewers.

It seems like your outline is too narrow. Some of the subtopics can be combined. As you give examples of current muckracking, these examples could also include senatorial, presidential, mayoral, and foreign elections.

The outline also lacks argumentative direction. How does analyzing the techniques of negative ad campaigns strengthen you argument? If your argument deals with the effectiveness of negative ad campaigns, then you should focus more on the advantages and disadvantages and the evidence of these. Maybe you could also talk about how the effectiveness has changed over the years.

Opening your topic up to all negative ad campaigns is too broad. Just stick to one thing-politics, drugs, drunk driving, smoking, etc.

I really like your topic and think it will be great it you can find specific examples of negative ad campaigns. Maybe, in order to make your project more multimedia, you could include videos of television commercials where there was muckracking.

I don't know if there is any way you could add positive ad campaigns into your project. Depending on what your arguement is you could show how there can be positive effects to positive ads. I know personally that watching all these ads made me not want to vote for either canidate.
